About Nicholas Rhodes
I have been teaching at the Music and Arts since July 2020. Music has had a foothold throughout my life; with countless individuals pouring into me to better develop me as a musician and an individual, it is important that I take what has been passed onto me, advance it further, and then reinvest it back to those seeking to learn. I believe in equipping musicians of all ages that they may have the tools to pursue their own path in music. Through multiple travels abroad, working in local bands, and in volunteering, music has been a tool used to provide unique opportunities and adventures within my life. Its ability to bring people together and bond a community is something I continue to encourage in the area.
Learning should be engaging and fun! This is why I tailor my lesson curriculum to the personal goals and aspirations of my students. While focusing on fundamentals and a basic understanding of theory, I also transcribe pieces that my students want to learn, and blend it into our lesson program. This allows us to continue to grow in our fundamentals and technique while being able to play music befitting the student. In everything we learn, it is important to me that the student understands the “how” and “why” of what we do. Breaking down concepts that they may be applied to a series of works. For my beginners, we will go over basic music notation, proper technique, and reading skills, then later progress into chordal/soloistic structuring. With my more advanced players, we will spend our time with ear training, developing your personal tone, and unlocking the full span of the guitar.
When my students leave, I want them to be able to sit in comfortably with other musicians, create their own music utilizing varying techniques and styles, as well as being able to teach others what it is they know. Equipping my students so that they may take their hard earned work into the community to better those around them.
Please reach out if you have any further questions about taking lessons with Nicholas.
