I agree with Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche when he writes, "Without music, life would be a mistake." Music should be taught to anyone and everyone without exception. I believe that music is a basic human need and fundamental building block for civilization.
Since music is a form of expression, it is very important for students to have an open mind when approacing it. Due to the various physical aspects of performance, every musician has a unique sound and a unique approach to music making. I call it your "musical signature." As a trumpet teacher, I embrace these unique qualities and work with the student to polish and refine them. I take responsibility as the teacher to inspire and motivate my students to excel in music. I maintain high expectations for students to practice, experiment and ask a lot of questions.
B.M. in Trumpet Performance with Minor in Jazz Studies from Truman State University. 8 years performance experience includes the St. Louis Brass Band, Columbia Civic Orchestra, Town and Country Symphony Orchestra, the St. Louis Big Band, the BB's Big Band, and Alpine Community theater. 2008 winner of the MTNA Young Artist Brass Competition. Principal of the Truman State Wind Symphony, Soloist with the Truman State Jazz Ensemble. 6 years teaching experience as a clinician, classroom teacher, and private teacher including Green City High School and Principia Upper School.
