After graduating Magna Cum Laude, Phil made the move to Boone, NC to pursue his Masters of Music in Percussion Performance at Appalachian State University. There, Phil became a member of the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra, ASU Wind Ensemble, ASU Percussion Ensemble, as well as the New Paradigm Percussion Quartet. Phil was also extensively involved in the Music Industry program, playing for upwards of 60 sessions at Robert F. Gilley Studios for recording students and private projects alike. In addition to his collegiate ensemble career, Phil spent two summers marching with World Class DCI group, Colts. Following his drum corps summers, Phil spent his 2017 summer interning with Pearl Corporation at their Nashville, TN headquarters.
