About Reid Immel

Reid Immel is a drummer, musician and educator based out of the Pacific Northwest. He is currently residing in Seattle, Washington, where he works as a session musician, runs group classes and teaches drumming to his students. He graduated with a B.A. in music from Western Washington University, has over 15 years of drumming experience, and has been an educator for the past 7 years.

Reid is known for his fun, engaging and personable nature as a teacher. His approach tackles each lesson from a holistic point of view, honing in on how to effectively make each and every lesson enjoyable, all while facilitating the necessary groundwork to develop work-ready and well-rounded musicians. He also actively encourages and helps his students to engage with local music communities in order to gain the necessary experience of performing live.

Reid grew up enjoying and playing a wide variety of styles, and cites Jimi Hendrix, The Police, The Who, Cream and The Beatles as pivotal influences of his younger years who helped to shape his sound. He is also an avid fan and student of jazz and funk, in both its contemporary and classic players. Some of his favorite jazz drummers include Max Roach, Art Blakey, Brian Blade and Philly Jo Jones to name just a few.

He is often found playing with rock/pop groups, or in small-group jazz jams. He also enjoys playing with jazz orchestras, big bands, funk/dance bands and doing accompaniment work for choirs and other ensembles on drums and percussion.
