About Robert

Robert Kennon, percussion, studied music at the University of Connecticut for seven years, where he received a B.A., M.M. and performance certificate under some of today’s most prominent professional percussionists. He has studied a wide variety of instruments including drum set, hand drums, mallet percussion, marching percussion and symphonic and orchestral percussion. Along with his studies in percussion, he is also well versed in music theory and composition. During his time in school, Robert participated in numerous ensembles, performing in countless concerts and solo/chamber recitals. He was asked to join two world tours, one with the University of Connecticut Collegium and one with the Yale University Concert Band. He also remains the sole founder of the University of Connecticut’s first-ever marimba quartet. Upon graduating, he has pursued performance opportunities around the state, holding the position of principal percussionist with the Connecticut Repertory Theatre for the last three years. He teaches percussion in the school systems in the area, helping students with their ensemble music, as well as Regional, All-state and college audition preparation. He wishes to continue his education, either pursuing a teaching certificate to become a high school band director or a doctorate to further his advancement in the field of percussion.

From Rob: "I would love to teach you! I specialize in classical and 20th-21st century Western percussion, as well as mallet percussion, marching percussion, drum-set and a variety of hand drums. I have studied percussion for over 10 years, receiving three degrees in music. I have worked with numerous students on their classroom music, including regional and all-state repertoire.  I am willing to teach all ages and work to establish a fun, but effective learning environment for percussion education.
