About Rowell Jao

Rowell Jao is currently a violin and viola faculty at Frederick Community College. He has a M.M. in Violin Pedagogy, M.M. and B.M. in Violin Performance from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, Certificate in Teaching the Violin and Viola: Creating a Healthy Foundation from Northwestern University, and a Graduate of the Governor’s School for the Arts in VA. Rowell Jao has studied with Dr. Olivia Hajioff and Dr. Marc Ramirez from the marcolivia duo, Akemi Takayama from the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and Doris Lederer - both from the Audubon Quartet. He also attends the bi-annual Starling DeLay Symposium at Juilliard School of Music.

Rowell Jao is a Registered Suzuki Violin teacher having completed ECC (Every Child Can!) and Violin Books 1-10, a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and the Suzuki Association of the Greater Washington Area. He has received his Suzuki Violin teacher training from The Greater Washington Suzuki Institute & PhoenixPhest Grande Suzuki Institute in Eastern Michigan University with Ronda Cole, Ithaca College Suzuki Institute with Edward Kreitman and Kimberly Meier-Sims, as well as from the Colorado Suzuki Institute with Sherry Cadow and Mark Bjork. He has also taken Suzuki Principles in Action (SPA) with Teri Einfeldt at the Eastern Mennonite University. Rowell Jao is a member of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) and has students participate in their ASTACAP yearly exams.

Rowell Jao has an extensive performance history playing with orchestras in Virginia and Maryland, as well as being the first violinist for the 2008 Grammy nominated album Indigo Road by lutanist Ronn Mcfarlane. Rowell Jao has a thriving music studio with over 15 years of teaching experience with students as young as age 3 to adults, teaching violin and viola.


His students participate in youth orchestras such as: Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra, Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra, Potomac Valley Youth Orchestra, and Academy of Saint Cecilia Youth Orchestra.
