During her four year tenure teaching K-5 music in Denver Public Schools, Ms. Orrell developed a music program with a 30 voice choir and a 15 piece recorder ensemble in a school that had no music for over ten years.
After moving to Charlotte, Ms. Orrell taught at Billingsville Elementary for seven years. Her Orffestra played an arrangement of Copland's Appalachian Spring with the Charlotte Symphony.
While teaching at Clear Creek Elementary, her fifth grade students were chosen to participate in CMS Elementary Honors Chorus. Ms. Orrell was the overall Coordinator of honors chorus. She also received multiple grants from Donors Choose to acquire items for her music classroom. These items included a music themed rug, 30 ukuleles, 25 music chairs, music staff white board, and many books to read to her students for lessons.
