Sarah Mitchell grew up in Portugal, where she had the privilege of attending the National Conservatory of Music in Lisbon to study flute. After doing high school and conservatory at the same time, she studied voice at Clarks Summit University in Pennsylvania and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music. While there, she enjoyed participating in musicals and plays and fostered a love for all things Broadway. When the military took her family to Hawaii, Sarah had the opportunity to be a member of the Mae Z. Orvis Opera Studio Program for adult singers and a coordinator for the Orvis Young Voices Studio program at Hawaii Opera Theatre. During that time she was also involved in HOT’s thriving Education & Outreach Program singing with Opera Express, a program designed to bring opera to schools all over the Hawaiian islands. She found it exciting to bring a new art form into the minds of children and to show them just how much fun opera could be.
Sarah has been teaching music since high school and finds great joy in watching young minds and old learn and grow. She teaches voice and piano in various styles as she works with students to achieve their musical goals.
