Welcome to our Music & Arts store in Severna Park!
Hello! My name is Scott, and I started with Music & Arts in April of 2012. I took over as manager of the Severna Park store in November of 2013. For over a year and a half, I've had the pleasure of serving the Severna Park store to provide the highest level of customer service. During the second quarter of 2014, I was nominated as a "Peak Performer," an honor that goes to employees who best exemplify the company standards and expectations. During the 2014 Back-To-School rental season, our store won a "Gold Phone" award, for excellence in our phone communication skills with customers.
Growing up, I was influenced by music at an early age. My dad was actually my elementary music teacher from grades K-6. I started piano lessons at an early age and trumpet in 4th grade.
In the 7th grade I joined marching band, as well as concert band and pit band. In the 8th grade I was awarded the Eagle Scout Award, the highest honor Scouting can bestow. Through my high school years, I participated in many Pennsylvania Music Educators Association festivals on both trumpet and voice. My senior year, I was accepted to participate in the Lebanon Valley College Honors Band; the school which I would later attend to major in music education.
The summer after my senior year in high school, I joined the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps based out of Newark Delaware. I had such a love of the marching music activity, that I was excited to successfully pass my audition and be accepted into the group. I remained with the group for four seasons, 1999-2002, playing the soprano bugle, and eventually the trumpet in 2002.
While attending Lebanon Valley College, I participated in the Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Trumpet Ensemble, and Concert Choir. In 2001, I toured with the LVC Concert Choir to Italy, which included an audience with Pope John Paul II and singing in the Sistine Chapel. Later in 2001, I was the drill designer and visual coordinator for "The Pride of the Valley" LVC Marching Band. For the 2002 and 2003 editions of the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, I served as principal chair trumpet. During my senior year I was selected to participate in the 2003 PA Intercollegiate Band, where I also sat principal chair trumpet. This festival was hosted at Mansfield University of PA, the school I would later attend to earn my Master's Degree in Music.
Another musical ensemble I've had the pleasure of working with, was the Pennsylvania Lions All-State Band. This band is comprised of students from all over the state of PA and attends the International Lions Convention to represent the state of PA. During high school I was a performing member of the group, moving to the staff-side after graduating college. In the past I've gone on tours to Montreal, Philadelphia, Denver, Boston, and Minneapolis, serving as a trumpet player, conductor, and marching band director.
After graduating college, I taught high school band for a few years before persuing a Master's Degree in Instrumental Conducting. For two years I did a residency program at MU, giving me the chance to serve as a Graduate Assistant. As a part of my program I was able to conduct the Concert Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, and Horn Ensemble. I also served on the staff of "The Spirit and the Pride of PA" Marching Band.
It was at Mansfield University where I met my now wife, Heather. After her third year of teaching high school band in Pennsylvania, we relocated to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She is the former Director of Bands at St. Michaels Middle High School of three years, in St. Michaels, MD. Currently, Heather is the Band and Orchestra Director at George Fox Middle School in Pasadena, MD, where she also teaches Percussion Ensemble and Music Goes Global.
I took over as the Anne Arundel County Ed Rep in February of 2016, and have loved every minute of it. It's great being able to serve the music teachers in Anne Arundel County!
We have two Saint Bernards, Riley and Bella. They are both therapy dogs through Fidos for Freedom, and go on regular therapy visits in Baltimore/Annapolis at children's hospitals and nursing homes.
Since I've started with Music & Arts I've enjoyed every minute of providing excellent customer service. I would enjoy the opportunity to work with you, as you make your way on your musical journey!
