About Me

Shane Willis is a Percussionist and Drummer who has been performing for over 20 years in many different styles and in many different locations.  Shane performs in all styles, but specializes in funk, fusion, jazz, metal and latin music.  He started playing professionally at the age of sixteen while attending the Fort Hayes Career Center.  Upon graduation, he attended Capital University for Jazz Studies.

Shane has performed all over the US and the Carribean, including performances at jazz festivals such as the Litchfield Jazz Festival, Ocho Rios Jazz Festival, Kansas City Jazz in the Woods and the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival.  Shane has performed with acts including Mimi Fox, Othello Mullinox, Carlos Malta, Warren Hill, Julian Vaughn and Chris Geith.  He is currently playing with smooth jazz trumpeter David Wells and his own group Hook, where he plays original unique fusion jazz compositions that mix high energy with fast paced, intricate rhythms.  Shane is currently finishing his new CD, Breakin' Out.  Shane wrote, produced and performed all of the tracks on the album which also featured David Wells on Trumpet and Flugelhorn.

Shane has been teaching for 18 years.  His specialty is the Drumset but enjoys teaching hand percussion, mallets and snare drum. He loves to teach every style of percussion, including but not limited to jazz, funk, rock, metal, latin and R&B.  He has a fun, practical approach to teaching the basics of drumming, but likes to get as artistic and progressive as the student wants.
