Drum Set, Jazz Improvisation, Music Theory, Percussion
My name is Steve Clark. I am a drum and percussion professional with over 35 years of touring and performance experience, a successful 20-year track record of private drum instruction, and inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame in 2000.
I specialize in teaching beginning students the fundamentals as well as those needing guidance through school symphonic and concert band performances. I am one of the few drum teachers in Las Vegas with experience teaching “special needs” students in a one-on-one environment.
Currently, in association with The Smith Center, I am also a Teaching Artist with the Southern Nevada Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts education program working in schools with kids under five.
I have facilitated several group workshops including the Make an Impression Drum Initiative (through The International House of Blues Foundation), Shake, Rattle and Roll (a rhythm workshop for intellectually and developmentally disabled adults), and an independent Rockabilly Workshop.
I believe all people are inherently capable of Rhythm. Teaching, to me, is using my skill to highlight that talent through time and patience. I believe that every student is unique and I respect that. My job is to help them find and keep their “voice” while at the same time helping them to develop the techniques required of playing an instrument.
