Areas of Instruction
Violin, Viola, Cello, Piano
I received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree in 1970 from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. My concentration was in violin performance. I also studied piano and voice. My graduate studies were in orchestral conducting, music history, and choral conducting. I have taught strings, chorus, and general music in various public and private schools. I currently teach private lessons in violin, viola, cello, piano, and voice.
I perform professionally on the violin, piano, and with singing.
( Occasionally, I throw in a little guitar!). I enjoyed the wonderful experience of playing violin for 14 years in the Virginia Symphony. I needed to quit that venue when I injured my shoulder. I am happy to say that my shoulder is now doing well!
I enjoy composing songs and instrumental music. I have performed and recorded with singer/ songwriter/ actor Chris Van Cleave and have enjoyed occasional film work. I love encouraging creativity in others. I enjoy orchestral music, Celtic music, and many other styles of music.
I have the joy of having raised two wonderful daughters. Children are our best teachers! I enjoy teaching people of all ages and stages. It is my desire to meet the student where they are at and proceed forward with a plan that works for their needs, ability of the moment, and learning style.
It is my job to lead the student into a journey of musical expression that enhances their lives and their goals. I include in my regular teaching working with people with "special needs" such as those with autism and Downs Syndrome.
The study of music and the performing of music transforms lives. Music also uses all portions of the brain. Students who study music are quick to recognize patterns. People recovering from various traumas also remember things better that they sing. I enjoy research in the use of music as therapy. Let the music go on.... I welcome you to enter the journey of the world of music...Let the music sing from your soul!
