Tanner Antonetti, trombone, grew up in central Arkansas and began his musical studies at age 7 with piano. After a brief stint on bassoon and double bass, Tanner took to the trombone at 10 years old and, four years later, was runner-up at the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) national brass solo competition, Junior Division. Tanner moved to Tennessee to study at Middle Tennessee State University (B.M. 2014) and quickly cultivated a diverse freelance career. Performing with commercial and jazz artists including Jesus Santandreu, Duffy Jackson, Rodd McGaha, Bob Mintzer, Steve Davis, and Scott Wendholt, Tanner developed a passion for jazz that he continually pursues through education and performance. Upon completion of his undergraduate degree, Tanner attended Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music (M.M. 2016). While a student, he was featured in an all-Luciano Berio program given by the school’s contemporary ensemble, Hear & Now, performing the composer’s Sequenza V for solo trombone.
Currently living in New Jersey, Tanner maintains an active teaching studio and performance schedule and has performed with the Arkansas, Chattanooga, Huntsville, Alabama, Albany, San Antonio, and Houston Symphony Orchestras on both tenor trombone and bass trumpet. Past mentors include Michael Underwood, Joshua Bynum, David Loucky, Per Brevig (Aspen Music Festival), and Allen Barnhill. Away from music, Tanner enjoys baking bread, being outside, and drinking far too much coffee.
