About Trenten

Trent Renshaw started playing the drums at age 10, and began to develop a passion for the instrument while attending North Hagerstown High School, under the direction of Brad O’Connor (Garfield Cadets, Mobile Percussion Seminars). While in high school, Trent had the honor of working with Thom Hannum (Garfield Cadets, Star of Indiana, Crossmen, University of Massachusetts) on rudimental studies, and was a participant in many Mobile Percussion Seminar activities, including: the demonstration drum line for the Mobile Percussion Seminars at Towson University. After high school, Trent focused on drum set studies with Keith MacMichael (Deanna Bogart, Barry Gurley Trio, Royce Campbell), who was a teacher at Shepherd University, and continued working with him until 2007 on various musical styles and situations. After studying with Mr. MacMichael, Trent sought out a teacher whose playing he’d been influenced by and had admired for years, Billy Martin (Lounge Lizards, Medeski Martin & Wood).  Trent continues studying with Mr. Martin, when he’s not touring, on various musical ideas.

Trent currently teaches lessons in the Music and Arts stores in Hagerstown, Frederick, MD and Sterling, VA. He has been teaching for Music and Arts in 2002, but began teaching individuals and drum lines in 1996. Trent has the ability to teach all types of percussion, including: concert, mallet, rudimental, and drum set, and welcomes students of all levels.  Whether you are an extreme beginner or a working drummer, Trent has the experience and ability to help you get to the level you want to be on the instrument.

Trent performs in the Western MD, Baltimore metro, Northern VA, and Washington DC areas with various projects, and has since 1998. Currently, he’s performing with: his own jazz trio, Trent Renshaw and Friends, an original Frederick MD based jazz trio, The KB Project and Nashville recording artists, The Hello Strangers.
