About Wheat Williams

B.M. from Georgia State University School of Music, with prior studies at Belmont University School of Music, Nashville, Tennessee. My principal instrument is operatic voice (I'm a tenor), I studied with Betty Boone at GSU and Ted Wylie at Belmont. I teach voice at all levels, and guitar and beginning piano, working with students from ages 6 to 70.

A native of Decatur, Georgia, I'm a professional church chorister and vocal soloist, with a lifetime of experience in traditional worship and classical music in churches throughout Atlanta. But as a performer and teacher, I am equally at home not only with traditional classical music, but also rock, musical theater, and the Great American Songbook.

For three years I was the business manager for the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra, a leading early music chamber group. Before that I was a volunteer and consultant with the Bob Moog Memorial Foundation, which applies the history of electronic music to music education.

I draw on formal training and music theory to build a solid foundation for the student, in any style of music the student wishes to study. I always strive to understand each student from their own perspective, encouraging as well as challenging, helping each one to find their own voice.
