About Bill Harned

Bill Harned was born and raised in Starkville, Mississippi, the home of the Mississippi State University Bulldogs. There, he first received a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering. During that time, he was able to take lessons from Joel Harrison, the President/CEO and Artistic Director of the American Pianists Association. Going back to study music, he studied with Rosangela Sebba at Mississippi State University.  He would continue on for a Master’s degree at Louisiana State University, studying with Michael Gurt.

Bill then studied Music Therapy at Colorado State University, where he was chosen to perform for the state conference. Realizing that his performing skills were better than his therapeutic skills, Bill auditioned and was accepted into the Doctor of Arts program in Piano Performance at the University of Northern Colorado. In his first year he studied with Hsing Ay Hsu, who is on staff at the University of Colorado in Boulder. In his second year, he took collaborative lessons from Dr. Willem van Schalkwyk.

Bill is currently in his second year of taking lessons with Dr. Adam Zukiewicz at UNC. He spent the past summer studying with him where he is on staff at the International Music Festival of the Adriatic in Duino, Italy. There, Bill performed the entire Ravel Piano Trio and accompanied opera scenes and singers. Also this past summer, he participated in the Pablo Casals Music Festival in Prades, France, and took lessons with Olivier Gardon who teaches at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Paris. He also participated in a summer program in Salzburg, Austria, studying Lieder accompaniment with Mitsumi Moteki, a vocal coach at the University of Colorado.

Bill has participated in master classes with such pianists as Martin Canin of Julliard School, and Abbey Simon and has won MTNA competitions for piano solo at the state level.

Bill also took organ lessons from Herndon Spillman at Louisiana State University, a student of Maurice Durufle in France. He also took organ lessons from Joel Baconat Colorado State University. In 2014 he took jazz lessons at UNC, which is nationally recognized for their jazz program.

Bill currently teaches piano lessons in the Fort Collins area, plays for local events, and has been playing in the praise band for Antioch Community Church in Fort Collins for the past five years.
