About William Ruegger
I have been giving guitar and piano lessons for 5 years. I have modeled my approach on the method by which I learned from my early instructors, as well as the insights of my current teachers at school. I strive to give my students a strong foundation in theory, coupled with an exposure to multiple styles and genres of music. I also feel it is important to keep the material that we focus on relevant to the student’s individual musical interests/goals in order to maximize his or her motivation to learn.
I have a great deal of performing experience on both the guitar and piano. The early bands that I played in, mostly categorized as rock, funk, or fusion, performed frequently at local venues in Fairfield County. I acquired a great deal of experience performing jazz when I lived in Burlington, VT from 2008-2012. There, I attended the University of Vermont as a music major and performed both in the school’s jazz ensembles and in pickup groups around the city. My education continued when I transferred to The New School for Jazz in New York City, where I am about to finish my degree. I have since gained valuable playing experience in the school environment and in the city’s venues. I recently performed as guitarist with the New York Youth Symphony Jazz Orchestra at Jazz at Lincoln Center.
