About Adom Whitaker

Get to know Adom Whitaker
Adom Whitaker was
born in Norfolk, Virginia to a family of musicians. His parents saw fit to
enroll him in private Violin and Piano lessons at the age of four. At age six,
he was introduced to the world of percussion and began taking snare lessons
with various church drummers. To give back to the network that molded his
musical training, he served as an Audio Engineer for his church from elementary
to middle school. Through high school, he matured into his church’s full-time
percussionist and kept this position until he matriculated to the College of
William & Mary. Outside of the classroom, Adom chose to spend his free time
managing service projects that taught local students the fundamentals of
musicianship. These experiences inspired him to reach new heights and dedicate
his life to working with the next generation. Adom came to Richmond, VA. to
enjoy life in a city where the arts are a true part of the community. Adom sees
music as the intersection of education and recreation, and believes it
cultivates perseverance in ways other activities cannot. While playing
instruments provides learners with various productive skills, it is also an
entertaining way to occupy time. In addition, the virtues needed to master a
percussion instrument are the same ones that can enable someone to become
successful. It allows the expression of creativity, nurtures self-esteem, and
equips musicians with discipline - all of which are necessary to becoming a
leader and living a fulfilling life. Music can be a bridge between two people,
and because we all have a heartbeat - percussion instruments are the best way
to connect with one another. Adom enjoys giving percussion lessons because
drums do not just control the tempo, but are the pulse of every song.
