      Get to know Alan Saldana-Silva

      Mexican baritone Alan Saldaña-Silva is an upcoming young singer on the road to a stellar career in opera, oratorio, and recital performances.

      A 2022 People’s Choice Award winner in the vocal competition Death by Aria hosted Utah Vocal Arts Academy in Orem, Utah, one of the winners of the Aria Competition in Baylor University in Fall of 2023, and a finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing TEXOMA Region competition in the Advance Male Division category the same year.

      In the operatic field Alan has sung the partial roles of Falke in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Figaro & Almaviva in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Horace Tabor in Moore’s The Ballad of Baby Doe, and Judge Turpin in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd during his undergrad at University of St. Thomas. Alan has made his operatic debut in the title role in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi at Utah Vocal Arts Academy summer program in their 2022 summer season, as Count of Almaviva and Don Giovanni in Florentine Opera 2023 Summer Program, as well in Baylor Opera Theatre singing the role of Bunthorne in Sullivan’s Patience and Maestro in Salieri’s Prima la musica poi le parole as a first-year graduate student and Vidal Hernando in Torroba’s Luisa Fernanda and Dater #30 in Ching’s Speed Dating Tonight! As a second-year graduate student.

      Alan’s concert repertoire is comprised of being the soloist for sacred works such as the Faure’s Requiem, Op. 48 and Handel’s Messiah, HWV 56 with St. Annes Catholic Church Choir & Orchestra, Mozart’s Missa Brevis in D, KV 194 with Lone Star College – Montgomery Choir & Orchestra, and Franck’s Seven Last Words of Christ with St. Patrick Catholic Church Choir & Orchestra.

      As a recitalist Alan has performed a wide array of art songs spanning from different musical periods and languages. Such notable works are Ibert’s Chansons de Don Quichotte, Ravel’s Don Quichotte e Dulcinee, Purcell’s Let the dreadful engines, Poulenc’s Le Bestiare FP 15, and Debussy’s Deux Romances L. 79, Finzi’s I Said to Love, Op.19b, Owen’s Drei Lieder für Bariton mit Klavierbegleitung, Op. 20, and Handel’s Dalla guerra amorosa, HWV 102.

      Alan is a recent graduate with a Master of Music specialized in Vocal Performance from Baylor University and received his Bachelor of Arts specialized in Vocal Performance from University of St. Thomas in May 2022
