Get to know Alec Richard
Alec Richard is a woodwind instructor for Music & Arts. He is a Riverside native currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Bassoon performance, and then pursue a teaching credential. He has been playing the saxophone continuously since elementary school and the bassoon since middle school.
While attending Idyllwild summer music camps, he learned from the best local and professional musicians. While attending Riverside Poly High School from 2016 – 2019. He performed in the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble. During high school, he took part in the RUSD Honor Band on Bassoon and Duke Ellington Jazz Ensemble on Saxophone. After graduating from Riverside Poly, he attended Riverside Community College from 2016 to 2019 taking part in RCC Wind Ensemble, Jazz Lab Band, Day Band, and Orchestra. While at RCC he was taught by professional musicians on the Saxophone, Bassoon, Flute, and Clarinet, and Piano.
Since the fall of 2019, he has been pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Bassoon performance at California State University, Fullerton. After graduating he will apply for a teaching credential. His long-term goal is to be a band and orchestra director.
During his time at Riverside community college, he started working as an assistant teacher for a nonprofit middle school after school band and orchestra program called Riverside Art Academy music project (RAAMP). He has taught beginning and advanced bands there since 2019. This fall he will be a master teacher.
