      Performance Experience: Alex has been a pro pianist and vocalist in the New York area for many years, appearing regularly at venues like Don't Tell Mama's Piano Bar. She has performed internationally in the UK, Europe, Japan, Mexico and the Caribbean, and on cruise ships. Numerous public and private events. She is a top performer on booking sites like The Bash and Gigsalad. Alex has been a music director and accompanist for musical theater groups, choruses, concerts and recitals, working with all ages.

      Teaching Philosophy: To engage the student and inspire music-making through a variety of learned skills: Musical literacy (note reading, sight reading, etc.); theory; technique; performance preparation; ear training; listening/transcribing; improvisation. "I want to expose new musicians to many styles, and to explore different ways of experiencing the joy of music. Music is essential to, and equally valuable to, humans within every culture! Each student is individual and I want to help them find their way."

      Get to know Alex Frederick

      Alexandra (Alex) Frederick is a singer and pianist, teacher and performer. She grew up in the UK and came to New York City to pursue her love of Jazz, studying with NEA Jazz Master Sheila Jordan, and international recording artists like vocalist Mark Murphy and pianist JoAnne Brackeen. Alex has been teaching piano and voice for over 20 years and is a regular piano bar entertainer at Don't Tell Mama's Cabaret Club in NYC; she has performed for cruise ships, hotels, and multiple public and private events. She is co-founder of The Smoky Caipirinhas Duo | Bossa Nova & Swing, with Brazilian multi-percussionist Leo Guerra.

      Alex says, "I've been balancing teaching and performing for many years now and feel they strongly complement and support each other. I get so much inspiration from students and their amazing ideas and perceptions, and in turn love to share my experience as a seasoned performer. I encourage new musicians to be open to, and to explore, many styles of music!"

      She holds two music degrees, one in Classical Performance, Double Bass and Piano from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, England, the other in Jazz Vocal Performance from the City College of New York.
