Get to know Alexys Bush
Originally from Mississippi, Alexys is a northern Virginia-based music educator and clarinetist. Prior to relocating to Virginia, she taught K-5 general music in north central Florida. She has her Master’s of Music degree in Music Education and Clarinet Performance from the University of Florida, and she graduated summa cum laude with her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Clarinet Performance from the University of South Alabama. A committed educator, Alexys has taught lessons and sectionals, instructed band camps, judged auditions, presented lectures, and given masterclasses in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi for over 10 years. She has performed internationally in Canada, France, Germany, and Tanzania, and in the U.S. in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, and Texas. Alexys also serves on the Executive Board of Daraja Music Initiative. Since the summer of 2017, Alexys has traveled to Tanzania, Africa, where she teaches general music and clarinet to primary and secondary students, and is the creator of the culturally responsive clarinet curriculum and books. She currently teaches K-5 general music in Loudoun County.
