About Alyssa Cox

I'm very excited to be teaching at Music and Arts! I grew up in North Charleston, but attended college in Spartanburg, SC. I began showing interest in music in fourth grade when I joined my school's Handbell Chorus, staying with the group until the end of 6th grade. I started guitar lessons in 5th grade, continuing through high school and specializing in classical guitar pedagogy. Additionally I have taken lessons in piano and voice, continuing with all three areas (guitar, piano, voice) throughout college. I have volunteered in a church choir offering my services in guitar and voice, and additionally have volunteered at a local music camp for LGBTQ+ youth as a guitar instructor. My recent teaching experience has been private piano lessons out of my home and substitute teaching in the North Charleston, Summerville, and Charleston areas. I completed my college degree in December 2024. completing the student teaching practicum in a Title 1 school in Spartanburg. My music teaching certification will be for grades K-12, but I mainly have experience in elementary settings. I am excited to offer my experience and mentorship to all ages!
