Get to know Amy McKinney

I began piano lessons at 6AM on Saturday mornings when I was in the 4th grade. I studied for many years with Mrs. H. D. Dear of whom the NSU (Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, LA) music department is named for. She invited me to play on the piano concerto concert with other pianists as we were accompanied by the NSU Symphony Orchestra. After that point I eventually auditioned and earned a scholarship to NSU where I received a B.A. in piano, and later returned to earn a B.M.E in instrumental music with a focus on the harp. I was a member of the NSU symphony, the NSU Harp Ensemble and the American/Irish folk band called the Back Porch Band. I taught piano and guitar at Our Lady of Prompt Succor School in Alexandria, LA for eleven years, then taught guitar and string orchestra in three middle schools in Coweta County, GA where I first began teaching at Music and Arts. I was then invited to teach string orchestra in Metro Nashville Public Schools where I have taught for seventeen years. I continued teaching at Music and Arts at the Cool Springs store since moving to Nashville, so that makes eighteen years of teaching with this company.
