      Location: Bowling Green, KY
      Speaks: English
      Instructs: Drums, Music Theory
Education: Bachelor of Music Education from Western Kentucky University, 1 year of graduate studies in Percussion Performance (Jazz Concentration) at Middle Tennessee State University
Performance Experience: I have performed in WKU’s wind ensemble, orchestra, jazz ensemble, percussion ensemble, and steel band. While attending MTSU, I performed in the jazz ensemble, jazz combo, percussion ensemble, and steel band. I spent some time with WKU’s orchestra as a cellist. I also perform solo and with my own Caribbean/Latin jazz band as a steel pan performer and vocalist, and I have performed with other groups as a hand drummer. As of 2024, I have become a stand-in percussionist for Orchestra Kentucky.
Teaching Experience: Since 2018 I have taught private percussion lessons and worked as a percussion instructor for Bowling Green and Franklin Simpson High Schools. In 2020 I taught the front ensemble for WKU’s Big Red Marching Band. I currently teach drumline and front ensemble at South Warren High School in the summers. I also teach lessons on jazz theory and improvisation.
Teaching Philosophy: I believe any student with a desire to play music has the potential to become a successful musician. As a teacher, I hope to guide my students in discovering the joys of performing music through finding what areas they are passionate about and building a strong foundation for them to achieve their goals.

      Get to know Andrew Dyer

I started learning music through guitar lessons when I was 12 years old. When I was in middle school, I made a pivot to percussion and cello. I enjoyed performing in concert band, strings, jazz band, and drumline all through high school. In 2017, I began studying music at Western Kentucky University. This is where I really discovered my passion for playing steel pan, vibraphone and marimba, as well as Caribbean and Latin jazz. I arranged a number of Latin jazz pieces for our steel band to perform. In 2022, I spent one year at Middle Tennessee State University studying percussion performance where I built on my knowledge of jazz theory and improvisation. While living in Tennessee, I started performing solo steel pan gigs and I started a Caribbean band to perform at festivals in the area. Since moving back to Kentucky in 2023, I have started a new Caribbean/Latin jazz group called Tropic Society where I perform on steel pan and I sing vocals.
