Get to know Austin Montgomery

Austin grew up as a well-rounded percussionist, playing in 10 different ensembles during his time in high school. On the performance side, he has done about every percussion discipline from orchestral, to jazz, to musicals, to marching percussion. As an adult, he has performed with ensembles such as: Snowflake Lane, Rosebud Theatre Conservatory, Federal Way Chorale, TJHS Musical Theatre, Emerald City Boom Indoor Drumline, The UW Husky Marching Band, and more. He began teaching percussion privately in Federal Way, WA in 2013. Three years later, he became the Program Coordinator and Instructor for the Thomas Jefferson High School Drumline, where the group experienced great success in local competition and performance until his departure in 2022. Austin is currently a college music student who performs and teaches year-round in various settings. During the school year he can be found consulting and teaching marching percussion with various Washington schools. Then in the summer, Austin serves as the Percussion Coordinator at Seattle All-City Marching Band, where it will be his fifth year on staff. Austin teaches with a balanced philosophy that starts with a great student-teacher relationship and positive reinforcement, and he looks forward to working with children of all ages and backgrounds.
