About Austin Westjohn

Austin Westjohn
Austin Westjohn
Music Teacher, Master
Location: Alexandria, VA
Speaks: English
Instructs: Trombone
Education: Master of Music degree from Baylor University; Bachelor of Arts in Music Education degree from Harding University
Performance Experience: I perform regularly as a member of The United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" and also with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra.
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching lessons for several years and have worked with students of all ages! During my time in Waco, Texas, I was the private trombone instructor for the Midway Middle School/High School Band Program. I was also a graduate assistant in the Baylor School of Music during that time, where I taught undergraduate lessons and the Trombone Methods course for Music Education students.
Teaching Philosophy: As a teacher, I want to help my students find their own passions for music and develop their own voices on the instrument. More specifically, as a brass instructor, I believe it is important to teach how to develop a great characteristic sound, that good fundamentals are a foundation for playing well, and that there is something to learn from listening to all kinds of music. It is my goal for students to know how to practice efficiently and creatively while finding enjoyment in the process.
