About Austin Westjohn
Get to know Austin Westjohn
Originally from Conway, Arkansas, Austin Westjohn joined The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” in 2018. He is also the principal trombonist of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 2019.
As an active freelancer, Westjohn has performed with many orchestras, including the Nashville Symphony, Arkansas Symphony, Reading Symphony, York Symphony, Harrisburg Symphony, and Waco Symphony Orchestra.
As a soloist, Westjohn has been recognized on both national and international solo competition platforms. He was named the grand-prize winner of the Stella Boyle Smith Young Artist Competition, sponsored by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. He was also named a finalist in the International Trombone Association’s Solo Competitions for three consecutive years and competed at the International Trombone Festival held in New York City and in Southern California.
Austin completed his M.M. in Trombone Performance at Baylor University in 2018 and holds a B.A. in Music Education from Harding University. Outside of performing or teaching, he enjoys hiking, being involved with his church, and spending time with his wife, Savanna.
