Location: Orchard Park, NY
Instructs: Bassoon, Cello, Clarinet, Flute, Oboe, Saxophone, String Bass, Viola, Violin
Education: I am a current senior at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam studying music education with concentrations in clarinet, band, orchestra, and special education in music. My primary instrument is clarinet, which I study with Julianne Kirk-Doyle, and I have taken secondary violin lessons with Liesl Doty. This spring, I will be student teaching in the Western New York area, and will hopefully receive my initial teaching certification in May.
Performance Experience: From 2014-2018, I performed in the clarinet section of the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra, serving as principal clarinetist during the 2018 European Tour. During my time at the Crane School of Music, I have participated in ensembles for both clarinet and violin, including the Crane Chamber Orchestra, Crane Symphony Orchestra, and Crane Wind Ensemble. This fall I completed the requirements for my Performance Certificate in clarinet, performing my senior 60-minute recital.
Teaching Experience: I have taught out of my own private studio in Buffalo, NY since 2017. During my degree, I have participated in various field experiences, including general music, band, special education, and orchestra. Over the summer, I teach general music at the Park School Camp, and during the academic year I work as a per-diem substitute teacher in the Ken-Ton School District.
Teaching Philosophy: I am dedicated to student-centered and culturally responsive teaching, meeting the needs and goals of each student. Everyone possesses valuable knowledge and experiences that can be activated and expressed through music-making. As a teacher, it is my goal to provide a safe, welcoming space in which students can explore their musical interests and learn skills that enable life-long inquiry, problem-solving, and advocacy.
