      Teaching Philosophy: My philosophy comes from making sure that even the most mundane practice method can be interesting and fun. I strive to meet the student where they are and tailor the lesson to how they learn, grow, and prosper.

    • Get to know Ben Hausman

      Ben Hausman is a percussionist and composer based in the Maryland area. Ben has a Masters in Music Percussion Performance from the University of Delaware and a Bachelors of Music in Percussion Performance from Towson University. They have studied with Gene Koshinski, Tim Broscious, Michelle Humphreys, Frank Russo, Jon Seligman, and Will Redman. As a composer and performer, Ben works closely with electronics, heavily involving themselves with electroacoustic music, using both live electronic and fixed media. Their compositions have been performed across North America, Europe, and Africa. 

      Outside of solo work, Ben is a part of Matchstick Percussion, a Maryland/D.C. based percussion quartet set to ignite creativity, celebrate inclusivity, and transform percussion repertoire. With Matchstick, Ben has had the chance to perform alongside renowned ensembles such as the 21st Century Consort, So Percussion, and Sandbox Percussion. Further with Matchstick, Ben has been a part of feature length works including John Luther Adams’ Earth and the Great Weather and the world premiere of Michael Gordon’s Field of Vision alongside members of the So Percussion Summer Institute and the University of Michigan percussion studio.

      Ben has also served as an educator for the past nine years, teaching both marching and classical percussion to both high school and college students. He served as a marching band tech for Meade High School, Perry Hall High School, Northeast High School, and Havre dGrace High School teaching both front ensemble and battery. Furthermore, in the classical lens Ben has coached percussion ensembles both throughout their undergraduate studies at Towson, but also at the University of Delaware, serving as a Teaching Assistant both for the Percussion Studio and for the World Percussion class, teaching Brazilian, Arabic, West-African, and fusion styles of drumming.
