Education: Many private lessons, Several years of college music theory, Had the honor of studying ear training, theory, and composition with Dr. Asher Zlotnik.
Performance Experience: Many years on the road (and playing locally) 5-6 nights a week, playing many styles:
Blues, R and B, Country, top 40, Jazz, etc
Teaching Experience: 25 years at Music and Arts, 2 years at A and E Music, 5 years at DnD Music
Teaching Philosophy: I believe in teaching the instrument, and the fundamentals of music (like reading)
in addition to learning songs (the fun part)
Get to know Berkley Smith
As the son of a Navy pilot, we moved a lot (I went to at least 11 elementary schools),
So being on the road with a band was a pretty natural transition for me.
I love to play live, but my real passions are songwriting and teaching.
