About Beverly Bouma

Get to know Beverly Bouma
I started playing viola in my school program in the 7th
grade. I fell in love with the instrument,
and I couldn’t stop practicing, even when the lights when out and it was time
for bed. In my 2nd year of playing, I
qualified for Regional All State, and the following year I qualified for All
State. As I continued to play, I
participated in multiple other string and orchestra competitions. When I was 15, I was fortunate enough to study
under Emanuel Vardi, and continued under his pedagogy for 5 years. By the time I was in 12th grade I
was practicing for about 3 ½ hrs a day.
After I
finished HS, I went on to Montclair State University where I earned my bachelor’s
in performance. Before I finished my
degree I began to play professionally around NY. I continued to study under some of most renowned
violinists including Oscar Ravina, Mati Braun.
While learning under Oscar Ravina, he connected me to the Philharmonia
Virtuosi, and through another connection I auditioned and was accepted to Metropolitan
Opera Orchestra. I was fortunate enough
to play with them for a few years and would also substitute as needed.
With my
over 25+ year of experience, I have learned to never stop practicing and
improving. This is a quality I try to
pass on to my student as well. As you
can see, I have had a passion for playing string instruments for most of my
life. I enjoy helping others find their
passion through learning music, and I look forward to helping you!
