Teaching Philosophy: To Progress as a Musician, students must not only understand the fundamentals, but obtain the ability to creatively experiment with new information. Lessons are more about discussions and collaboration, with lots of modeling. However, there must be material to ground the student effectively and use the information effectively. With this, I teach all students the same core concepts of how their instrument works, but adjust the language and depth to be assessable to the specific individual.

I am Brandon Dicks a Trumpeter, Composer, and Teacher. There are many things that I do, such as being the Co-Director of the Trumpeter’s Multi-Track Competition and Seminar, and the Marketing and Social Media Director of Rhode Island Recording Ensemble. I also run a YouTube Channel featuring over 50 videos with over 115K Views, featuring self-produced performance videos, and score videos of original compositions. I am also an award-winning Composer with overall 59 published compositions as well as a published teaching etude book entitled, Scales with Character. In the past, I was also a trumpet artist for the Next Generation Trumpet Competition and the Associate Music Editor and Production Manager of
the New Baroque Soloists.

I am ABD in my Doctorate in Trumpet Performance at Arizona State University with Joe Burgstaller. During my time at ASU, I taught a total of 18 different students privately with many diverse backgrounds. My Master’s degree was a double degree in Trumpet Performance and Music Composition from the University of Hartford where I studied trumpet with Phil Snedecor. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Columbus State University where I studied with Robert Murray.
