Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, Dr. Bryan Kennard leads an active schedule as a flutist, composer, improvisor, and educator. His career and education have allowed him to perform in classical and jazz settings across the United States and Europe.

As an educator, Bryan has over a decade of experience teaching flutists of all ages and ability levels. He has had successful private studios in Northeast Ohio and Austin, TX, and his students regularly achieved high rankings in auditions and contests. Bryan has also taught flute at Hiram College and Concordia University Texas. No matter the level of student, he creates a learning atmosphere that is supportive and encouraging. He studied flute at Mercyhurst University under Wendy Kumer and received a masters in Flute Performance at Youngstown State University where he studied with Kathryn Umble.

Bryan fell in love with jazz and composition around the same time in his life and has consistently paired them with his passion for the flute. After several years working as a freelance musician and teacher, he returned to school and received a masters and doctorate in Jazz composition from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Miami respectively. He regularly collaborates with local classical and jazz musicians and organizes performances with his own bands throughout the Cleveland area.
