I started playing music on the piano around 8 years old, and then moved to violin and guitar when I was around 12 years old. My family exposed me to many genres of music when I was growing upI kept studying piano and violin until the end of Highschool. From then on I focused mainly on guitar I really got into rock music around this time. I kept playing in jazz bands in college and started playing in Jazz bands in College. My focus changed towards jazz music around that time. I still like playing both kinds of music .
As a child, my family exposed me to many different kinds of music, and encouraged my love of music from a very early age. I started playing Piano when I was around 8 years old, then moved to Violin and Guitar when I turned 12. While I was in High School, I played Violin in the school Orchestra, but also started getting really inspired by Rock Music, and developed my Guitar skills by joining rock bands. I was first inspired by the “British Invasion” bands, like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who, and Led Zeppelin, but also the more “improvisation” based bands like Jimmi Hendrix, Greatful Dead, and Traffic. My favorite instrument (that I own) is a 1960s Gibson 330 , a smaller guitar, that I pick up almost every day.
I went to college at University of Alabama- Birmingham, and got my Bachelor’s Degree in Music Technology, but I also developed my passion for Jazz Guitar (after being inspired by Wes Montgomery), and got involved in Musical Theater. I also started learning how to play Bass, Mandolin, Slide Guitar, and even got into Folk music. After my Bachelor’s I went on to get my Master’s degree in Jazz Studies from Rutgers University (focus on Guitar performance).
After my college background, I now enjoy teaching at Bailey Brother’s Music & Arts in Birmingham. I specialize in Electric/Acoustic Guitar, Bass, and Ukulele. I teach mostly folk , blues, pop, rock, jazz, and classical styles of playing. I look forward to meeting you and teaching you more about music!
