Get to know Cheryl Max
Ms. Max is an experienced piano teacher, having begun teaching while still a high school student. She has taught students ranging in age from 3-65, and uses a variety of piano method books and materials tailored to the age and interests of the student. She believes the most important benefit in studying piano is that it develops an enjoyment and appreciation for music that lasts a lifetime.
Ms. Max earned a BA in Choral Music Education from the University of Arizona after beginning college studies as a piano performance major, studying with Ozan Marsh, Nicholas Zumbro, and Richard Faith, and was awarded a full scholarship in piano performance. She also continued her education with graduate study in Choral Music at Arizona State University.
Ms. Max was a certified teacher in the Yamaha Education System as well as Yamaha Music in Education. She was a certified teacher in Arizona, teaching students in grades K-12 in general music, chorus, and piano class in public schools. She currently holds the music K-12 certification in New Jersey.
She has adjudicated choirs and solo and small ensemble performers, as well as conducting district honor choirs, and pit orchestras for school musicals.
Ms. Max has accompanied All-State and District Honor Choirs in Arizona, and has extensive accompanying experience with solo performers. She has also performed in orchestras for local and regional theaters.
Most recently Ms. Max has been the Carnegie Hall Music Program Coordinator for WorldStrides, an educational travel company based in New York, NY, producing music festivals for student performers in New York as well as in Reykjavík, Iceland and Sydney, Australia.
