Performance Experience: I've played with several bands including small group and big band jazz as well as salsa bands at Texas State University and the High School for the Performing Arts. Additionally, I have performed in rock, pop, funk, and country, and church bands for the last decade all across the state of Texas!
Teaching Experience: I started teaching at the age of sixteen and fell in love with sharing the joys of music with children as young as 4 all the way through adults well into their sixties!
Teaching Philosophy: Having read through incredibly tedious amounts of drum method books, I've found that most students learn the language of music best in the same way they learned their native language: through listening, watching, and then reproducing results without any fear of failure. I cater each of my lessons to my individual students' taste in music - the drums are found in every genre of music and I love to embrace that!
Get to know Chris Mcnamara
Born into a very musical family, Chris got his start playing piano at eight but gravitated to the drum set soon after and has stayed busy practicing, gigging, and teaching ever since. A veteran of marching percussion and a graduate of Texas State University and the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, Texas, Chris’ pursuit of music has spanned multiple genres including jazz, funk, rock, country, pop, metal, and numerous Latin styles. He exudes a passion for music in all of his lessons and loves sharing the immensely diverse benefits of a musical education with his students, young and old.
