About Chris

Chris Salas
Music Teacher, Master
Location: Bothell, WA
Speaks: English
Instructs: Guitar, Music Theory, Piano, Violin
Education: I have my A.A. in Music and have studied under some great professional teachers and players in Southern California.  I have been in a ZZ Top and Led Zeppelin tribute bands, as well as a student showcase band playing 00's and 10's rock.
Performance Experience: I have been in a ZZ Top and Led Zeppelin tribute bands, as well as a student showcase band playing 00's and 10's rock. all 3 of these bands were for hire and I've played local bars and block parties.  I now specialize in the beautiful and unique style of flamenco guitar, but I still love sharing my passion for classical guitar and piano, as well as classic rock and metal electric guitar.
Teaching Experience: I've been teaching piano, guitar, and violin for 13+ years. I have helped many budding musicians explore other instruments, such as ukulele and mandolin, in many different styles such as: Folk, Blues, pop, country, and jazz.  I particularly enjoy when students want to mix styles and instruments, like classical music on electric guitar, Metallica on piano, Guns and Roses on violin, and video game music and movie scores on any instrument.
Teaching Philosophy: I really love to have my students' input in where they would like to take their music.  Together, we can explore theory, improvisation, music reading, playing by ear, transcribing your favorite songs, and more.  My lesson plans always include technique builders and easier material to act as stepping stones to your own personal goals.  Whether you're still exploring styles and instruments, or already know exactly what you want, I'm going to be excited to help you realize your musical goals.

Get to know Chris

Hi there, my name is Chris and I’m a lifelong musician. I was originally trained in classical piano by my grandparents, both of whom were concert pianists, around age 5 and have since gone on to play many other instruments and obtain an A.A. in music. In my 13 years of teaching, I have had the privilege of training with many professional musicians in southern California. I have participated in teacher showcase cover bands, playing bands like ZZ top, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, and a variety of “top hits” of the 00’s at local gigs.

These days I concentrate my own musical focus to a beautiful and artistic style of classical guitar from southern Spain called Flamenco, but I still love helping others reach their dreams of playing Classical guitar and rock/heavy metal electric guitar so that I can share the love that I have for these subjects as well!

You can expect our lessons to be a fun and friendly space for your musical exploration. We will cover theory and learn exercises, in small bits as it applies to the current material, in order to give a well rounded understanding of how the music works as a whole and to give you the tools to learn each song better and faster than the last. We will also be focused on developing superb technique and posture to keep your playing relaxed and fast without tiring your muscles or stressing your body. The most important thing, though, is the music that you love, so we will work together on something that you’ve selected to play, or work toward, and design a personalized lesson plan to meet your goals.

Whether you’d like to play classical/electric/flamenco guitar, or read, write, analyze, and arrange music, I’ll be happy to be your support.
