Get to know Christina
Mezzo-Soprano Christina Swanson is a singer and teacher based in New York City. Christina received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Michigan in 2016, where she studied opera, art song, and musical theatre singing, while learning to adapt her technique to pop, rock and jazz.
She has performed in projects that span a vast variety of genres, including opera, early music, musical theatre, jazz and rock/experimental music. On the opera stage, Christina has appeared with New York Lyric Opera Theatre, Opera MODO, Red River Lyric Opera and The Detroit Symphony Orchestra, in addition to co-founding an opera company in New York, Killer Queen Opera.
Other projects include her work on an experimental rock album, "The Voices of the Carousel," with the Detroit-based band, The Strange, and has been featured on WDET's Essential Music.
As a teacher, Christina works with students carrying musical interests as diverse as hers, working with beginners and touring professionals alike. She believes in an innovative approach, personalizing each lesson to meet student needs, and often integrating principles from movement and dance in her teaching.
