Get to know Christopher Bower
Hello! My name is Chris! I have been playing and writing music for over 20 years. My training in music began at an early age with my parents who are both professional pianists and music educators. I began formal piano lessons at age 5 and started guitar lessons at age 13.
At age 15 I joined a band and began performing live on electric guitar playing classic rock and metal music at local gigs. Throughout high school I played guitar in jazz band and had the opportunity to take pipe organ lessons at Hood College through scholarships. My knowledge of piano and guitar performance, music theory, and composition expanded through my training in Frederick County’s Advanced Music Studies Academy. I began teaching private music lessons and playing piano professionally in high school as well.
From 2012 to 2019 I worked as a professional pianist and organist at Grace Rocky Hill Lutheran Church. Working as a church musician gave me the opportunity to compose and perform my own music and create my own arrangements. I also enjoyed performing on guitar with the praise band.
I love and appreciate all genres and types of music. My favorite genres of music are classical music, classic metal, and progressive rock.
Aside from music, my interests include aviation and geosciences. I am a commercial pilot and have worked as a flight instructor and aerial survey pilot.
I believe that music has extraordinary power and that it immeasurably enriches the lives of all who understand and appreciate its beauty. I love sharing the gift of music with others
