Claire Pawlewitz is an enthusiastic teacher, performer, and composer. She spent many summers teaching musical theatre vocal harmonies to peers, eventually becoming the Assistant to the Music Director at YPCCA. Claire went on to join several pit orchestras as a percussionist for both musicals and operas. During her music studies at the University of Connecticut, Claire sang, marched in the UCMB, and played classical percussion and mallet instruments in the department's premiere ensembles. She is currently employed as a Percussion Instructor of the Bristol Central High School Percussion Ensemble, which has 5 live performances or concerts each school year. With a strong focus on the comfort of the student, Claire enjoys exposing musicians to new and interesting genres of repertoire, as well as absorbing the kind of music that her students enjoy singing and playing. Her teaching style involves a tailored and personal approach, often involving humor and outside-the-box techniques for thinking about rhythm, timbre, harmony, and intonation. Each and every person conceptualizes sound as art differently, so Claire works with student to discover and cultivate those unique relationships with music, while working towards technical excellence.
