About Crystal Wood
Get to know Crystal Wood
Hi! I am so glad that you have decided to study music! My name is Crystal, and I am a very cheerful and spunky Chicago native that is not just passionate about performing music, but teaching music.
I have been studying since the age of 10, and am currently earning my second degree in music education from the University of North Carolina. I specialize in voice for all levels, beginning piano, oboe and violin. My students have ranged from ages 5 to 65, both professional and novice. I believe that music should be a form of personal expression, accessible for everyone and most importantly fun for all regardless of their age or ability level.
As a teacher I have served as musical director for ‘CAMMO Kids’ (Center for American Military Music Opportunities) for the past 7 years. Most recently, the choir performed with Idina Menzel (Rent/Wicked/Glee/Frozen) for the USO Holiday special aired in December 2020. While stationed in Washington, D.C. I taught for the Metropolitan School for the Performing Arts. Many of my students received leading roles in regional and national productions of Broadway shows such as Billy Elliot and Annie.
Some of my screen credits include: America’s Got Talent Season 8, the Military Channel, Hallmark Home and Family, the PBS Kennedy Center Lincoln Awards, Oprah’s Life You Want Tour, the Invictus Games and the Queen Latifah Show. I have performed at the Kennedy Center, Radio City Music Hall and Capital Records with artists such as the Cincinnati Pops, Kelli Pickler, Jewel, Aloe Blacc, Chris Botti, David Foster, Laura Wright, Arturo Sandoval, Chaka Khan, Brandon Victor Dixon, Andrew Rannells, as well as many others. Each of these experiences allow me to bring ‘real world’ knowledge to my students.
Whether you are looking to land that next gig, or just taking lessons for fun, I create a tailored program unique to each of my students. Over time most of my students become like family. I cannot wait to start this musical journey with you!
