About Darryl Richards
Get to know Darryl Richards
Darryl Richards has had an illustrious career as a performer and educator, in both classical and jazz genres. He grew up in Humble, Texas, and holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Sam Houston State University. His private flute teachers include Jan Cole (a student of Jean-Pierre Rampal at the Paris Conservatory), and Phil Sobel (from the NBC Orchestra).
Darryl has performed in the pit orchestra for countless musical theatre productions in Los Angeles and in Houston. While in Los Angeles, he shared the stage with performers such as Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, and The Temptations. He also performed on multiple Grammy-winning and Grammy-nominated studio recordings, include with Luther Vandross ("Your Secret Love") and Van Hunt.
Darryl is endorsed by Haynes Flute Company and is a member of professional organizations including National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and ASCAP. He is a well-known teacher in the Houston area, and teaches at Rubicon Academy and Young Men's College Prep Academy as well as at Kingwood Music School.
