      Get to know Edward Rubin

Edward Rubin is originally from right here in Charlottesville, Va. He began his education in the Charlottesville City schools on double bass in school orchestra and has had a roller coaster musical journey since he started. Edward had a jazz cat dad and a rock n roll mom, his grandfather was a musician as well, music runs deep in his family. He met his first musical success in a middle school rock band the Safety Scissors and went on to play at Gravity’s Lounge, Fellini’s, the Old Jefferson Theater and other long lost venues. Edward moved to Asheville and studied music in College, studied the Appalachian music tradition and played at The Carter Family Fold and the depot in Marshall as well as other venues. He also played in the Warren Wilson College Jazz Band, switching between bass and guitar. Since moving back to Virginia Edward has continued studying Appalachian music and shares his knowledge of finger and flat picking. If rock n roll is more your style Edward will be happy to teach you how to rock out so you can turn up the volume!
