Education: Eric has had the privilege to study with Rusty Higgins, Adam Larson, Jeff Ellwood, & Charlie Richard on saxophone. He has also studied with Gary Woodward & Shannon Canchola-Limon on the flute. Eric is primarily self-taught on clarinet, but has taken many individual lessons with various prominent teachers in Southern California.
Performance Experience: Eric performs all over Southern-California with groups such as LALA Brass, Los Kung Fu Monkeys, The Marlonius Jazz Orchestra, The Teryn Re Big Band, and Pandemonium Prism to name a few. Notable performances include the 2019 People's Choice Awards with Alessia Cara, the 2019 NPR Tiny Desk Contest Tour, and a concert in 2017 with baritone saxophone legend Gary Smulyan.
Teaching Experience: Over 12 years of teaching private lessons experience freelance. Has worked as a section coach at Goddard MS, Sandberg MS, Upland HS, Workman HS, Los Osos HS, and more. Additionally has worked as a substitute band director at Mission Viejo Christian School. Over 6 years experience with teaching online. Over 10 years experience working with neurodivergent/special needs students.
Teaching Philosophy: Everything sounds best when played relaxed, so I emphasize building a calm & confident mindset for all students. My primary objective for lessons, is ensuring my students are working on everything needed to get to their goals. Every curriculum is customized, and focuses on developing student's strengths while still accomplishing improvements for the deficiencies of their technique.
