Get to know Garrett
As a lifelong learner and student of music, Garrett began private study at the age of 11. While the bulk of his expertise is in brass instruments, his musicianship and teaching has been widely informed by other instruments including guitar, piano, ukulele, and clarinet. He completed a Bachelor of Music Education at the University of Southern Mississippi and is currently enrolled at the University of Colorado Boulder as a Master’s student in Music. Garrett has been teaching public school for three years and specializes in starting beginner brass students. His students have gone on to earn positions in the Mississippi All-State band and university bands throughout Mississippi and Louisiana.
As a brass performer, Garrett has performed with a variety of ensembles including the Mississippi Wind Symphony, USM Symphonic Winds, Friends in Low Places Brass Quartet, and others. His education has included both classical and improvisational styles of performance; he believes that creativity and having opinions about music are key components of successful music making.
“Regardless of what your goal is, we will find a pathway for you to achieve it while growing as a musician and student. Music is first and foremost for entertainment, so enjoying both the process and the performance are a huge part of achieving high levels of musicianship; loving the music that you make is the first step for others to love it.”
