I began studying piano at the age of 14, but I studied Marimba for 7 years before that. That is how I learned the keyboard. I wanted to learn piano after I heard some classical music on the radio. I just really wanted to play like that. So I traded the marimba for piano lessons.
I majored in music in college and studied at Mt St Mary’s College in Los Angeles, CA. I also studied 2 years at the conservatory of music at University of the Pacific in northern California. I had some excellent piano teachers. All of my teachers were concert pianists. I graduated with a bachelor’s of arts in applied music from Mt St Mary’s College, I have been teaching since then. My most recent experience has been teaching children at a school in Centennial. I have a passion for music, so this really is what motivates my teaching. It is also very good for the brain!
In the past I have worked in the health care field as a nurse, in which I have a master’s degree. I enjoy helping people, so I decided to become a music therapist. I will start my second year of music therapy training this fall of 2021. My goal is to combine music therapy and teaching.
In my spare time I like to spend time with my family and our 2 dogs. I also like cooking, crocheting and watching period films and historical dramas.
There is a great reward in studying piano, something that will bring joy to others and also can be a way to soothe yourself after a long day.
