Education: B.A. Whitman College (2018) - Music Composition with Honors, magna cum laude
Performance Experience: My background includes many years performing in choirs, a cappella groups, jazz/funk bands, and a grab bag of operas, plays, and musicals. Highlights include the role of Hanschen in Spring Awakening, playing bass & keys in cover band Crossing Isaacs, and self-directed high school a cappella quintet Chief of Staff. Venues played include Bellingham’s Mt. Baker Theatre, Seattle’s Studio 7 and Folklife Festival, Walla Walla’s Main Street Studios, and more!
Teaching Experience: 4+ years in a variety of settings: private and classroom music lessons, outdoor preschool, rock climbing
Teaching Philosphy: My foremost goal is to help everyone find and master way(s) of learning that work for them. All else follows from there. I hope students look forward to each lesson and walk out excited to continue whatever we worked on. In my experience in both roles, open and ongoing dialogue between teacher & student (and parent if applicable) is key. Whether through traditional method books or guided self-study on YouTube, I care most that people enjoy making steady progress towards their goals.
Get to know Hunter Dunn
Hello all! My name is Hunter Dunn; I'm a Bellingham native recently moved to Tacoma. I taught for two years through AmeriCorps: last year with Tiny Trees outdoor preschool in Burien's Seahurst Park, and the preceding year as K-8 music teacher in the public schools of Condon, Oregon. Outside of teaching, I'm an avid outdoorsman (1000+ trail miles logged), direct the choir of Tacoma's Grace Baptist Church, and perform in pop-rock band 48° North (www.48degreesband.com).
