Jacob (Jake) Weller is an educator, conductor, and performer dedicated to sharing his love for music with his students. As a graduate from Lebanon Valley College, Jake has a degree in Music Education, as well as a degree in Music with concentrations in Music Theory and Brass Pedagogy. At LVC, he was able to study under several talented faculty including Mr. James Erdman, former principal trombonist for the President’s Own Marine Corp Band; and Dr. Gregory Strohman, a renowned composer and performer. At the same time, he was gaining valuable teaching experiences in schools of varying populations of students from Kindergarten to Twelfth Grade.
Jake’s musical journey started in elementary school, beginning with piano lessons at age 8, joining the band as a tubist at age 9, and singing with the choir at age 10. He continued his musical studies through high school where he began learning trombone and euphonium. As the only tuba major at Lebanon Valley, Jake had no shortage of performance opportunities, including large ensembles such as symphonic band, wind ensemble, symphony orchestra, concert choir, and marching band; chamber ensembles like low brass ensemble and brass quintet; and as a soloist. He also has experience in musical theater, both onstage and as a bass trombonist in pit orchestras.
Currently, Jake holds a position with Harford County Public Schools, teaching elementary general music and choir. He also works as a technician for a high school marching band. Outside of the school day he continues to hone his musicianship skills as a performer with the hopes of performing with ensembles again soon following the COVID-19 shutdown.
