About Jana Merkel
Get to know Jana Merkel
I have taken piano lessons for 18 years, and I have dabbled in a bit of every style
of music. The reason for this was so that I could decide for myself which style I
wanted to continue in. I believe my students should also be given the opportunity
to figure out what style they enjoy playing.
I attended Cedarville University and recieved a BM in Keyboard Pedagogy. I had
four or five teachers in my time there. This helped show me a ton of different ways
to go about teaching. The teachers I had were Dr. Ryan Behan, Professor Danielle
Hutchison, Professor Conie Anderson who was also the head of my pedagogy
program, and Dr John Mortensen. I have performed quite a few times during my time
at college most of the time it was accompanying. However, I did do a senior recital for
my degree that included a chamber ensemble, four hands one piano, and solo piano.
I have taught for a little over two years between a studio near my school and at my
school. I have taught all ages and needs. My passion is for those with special needs.
