About Jason Weaver

Get to know Jason Weaver
My earliest memories of music consists of listening to Motown and Beatles records with my Mother. I credit her for planting the seed for my love of music.
As a child of the 80’s, I was exposed to the electric guitar through bands like Van Halen and Def Leppard. This was a very exciting time to learn how to play so when I was ten, I began taking guitar lessons.
With my expanding musical interest, and help from my teacher, I began to study more possibilities with the instrument. This eventually led me to explore fingerpicking and classical styles. From this point, I knew I wanted to pursue music as a profession and decided to major in music. I studied the guitar at Southeast Missouri State and then went on to earn a Masters degree in Classical Guitar at Northwestern University.
Since graduating, I have had the opportunity to perform with orchestras, theatre productions, and session work performing on the guitar, bass, and mandolin.
I have been teaching for over 20 years and find great joy in watching students develop an appreciation for music. I teach beginning students all the way through advanced college students. In addition to teaching at Music and Arts, I am also a faculty member of Missouri Baptist University as well as McKendree University.
I prefer to think of myself as a music teacher first and not just a guitar teacher. My goal is to help students become musicians. If you are interested in playing one of the instruments I teach, either for hobby or more, I would be happy to help you achieve your goals.
